4-star resort 140 rooms Railay West to East

Railay Bay Resort & Spa is the biggest of the two hotels we cover on Railay. It opened in 1998 and publishes 140 rooms, most of them wooden cottages and bungalows set in gardens. The resort runs from Railay West Beach across to the Railay East side, so where your room sits matters. Location scores are high on every platform. Cleanliness, maintenance and value get mixed reviews, and the west bay in front of the pool is a busy longtail boat stop.

What you actually get

  • Two pools, one on the beach: Booking lists two free outdoor pools: a beachfront pool with a shallow end, pool bar, loungers and towels, and a separate kids' pool. A 2025 review notes the sunbeds by the beach and pool are limited.
  • Wooden cottages in gardens: Deluxe Cottages are 41 to 50 m² depending on the source, with a private balcony and bathtub. Only three suites face the sea; the other categories sit in the landscaped gardens.
  • Pool villas for bigger budgets: The Luxury Suite Pool Villa is 93 m² with a private pool. The two-bedroom Family Pool Villa is 180 m² with a private pool, outdoor spa bath and garden, and sleeps up to six.
  • One restaurant, bar and coffee: Railay Restaurant serves seafood and international food from breakfast to dinner, with a kid-friendly buffet. There is also a bar, a coffee house and a mini-market on site.
  • Spa, Wi-Fi and daily cleaning: There is a spa with massages, both charged extra. Wi-Fi is free, though Booking says free throughout in one place and public areas only in another. Rooms are cleaned daily.
  • What costs extra: Airport and pier transfers, babysitting, laundry, ironing, spa treatments and water sports are all charged separately. Extra beds are paid at the resort and are not included in the booking total.

Prices, reviews and booking

Railay Bay Resort & Spa is listed as a 4-star resort, though TripAdvisor shows it as 3 stars. It publishes 140 rooms in 14 categories, from a twin or double room to a two-bedroom pool villa; TripAdvisor lists 141. Most rooms are wooden cottages and bungalows in the gardens. The resort was built in 1998 and last renovated in 2006. It also trades as Railay Bay Resort & Spa (SHA Extra Plus).

No source publishes a dated nightly rate in Thai baht for this resort, so we do not quote one: check live prices when you book. The published fees are for extra beds on Booking: a cot for babies up to 1 year is free, an extra bed for a child aged 4 to 11 costs 1,400 THB per night, and one for guests aged 12 and over costs 2,800 THB per night. These are paid separately at the resort.

TripAdvisor (page updated 2024) rates it 3.5 out of 5 on 2,818 reviews, #6 of 7 resorts in Railay Beach, with Location 4.5, Cleanliness 3.7, Service 3.4 and Value 3.4. Booking gives location 9.3 out of 10 on 2,771 reviews, with Value for money 8.0 and Free WiFi 7.7. Trip.com shows 8.7 out of 10 on 201 reviews. Railay has no road access. You take a taxi to Ao Nam Mao Pier or Ao Nang Beach, then a longtail boat of about 20 minutes to Railay Pier, which is next to the resort. A 2025 review puts the boat at around 100 baht per person each way. There is free parking at Ao Nam Mao Pier. Phra Nang Cave Beach is about ten minutes on foot. More detail in getting to Railay.

It is not a quiet boutique stay. Reviews from December 2025 report constant longtail noise on the west bay, day-trip boats all day, and a monkey-deterrent noise after the pool is swept at 6 am. Some rooms are closer to Railay East than to the west beach. Trip.com guests ask for better cleaning and maintenance. There are no wheelchair-accessible rooms and no pets. The Deluxe Cottage is listed at 50 m² by the resort and 41 m² by Agoda, and the Deluxe Double at 62 m². The Luxury Suite Pool Villa is 93 m² and the two-bedroom Family Pool Villa 180 m².

There are two outdoor pools: a beachfront pool and a kids' pool. Agoda lists a private beach, but Booking does not, and no other source confirms one, so plan on a public beach.

The sources do not say whether breakfast or half board is included; check your rate when booking. Railay Restaurant on site serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.

Booking and TripAdvisor both describe it as popular with families. It has a kids' pool, a playground, a kid-friendly buffet, free cots and paid babysitting, and some bungalows connect through a door.

No dated seasonal rates are published, so check live prices. Airport and pier transfers cost extra and must be booked and confirmed in advance with the resort; no fixed start time is published.
